Marine life

On the weekend I took a trip to the aquarium to try and get some marine life macro photography:

This lobster had lovely patterns and i like the way his feeler thing is coming forwards to make it look more 3D

This jellyfish had amazing colours, i love how floaty and light it looks.

I love the detail in this jellyfish. The composition workks really well with the big one in the fore ground and the other floating around in the distance.

Here i captured him side on so you can see all his drifting tentacles

This enenimy looked cool, poofing of the side of some drift wood.

This crab has great texture, I used shallow depth of field so that the focus was on his first claw and the line of spikes above it.

The lighting on this octopus worked really well, highlighting his tentacle against the dark water

These glowing enenimies look amazing against the black background. and they have so much detail :o

looking at animalssssssss

Animals have so many different colours and textures, perfect for interesting macro photography! Here I tried looking at normal household pets:

This sleepy cat made a lovely picture!

I thought this picture of my rabbit looked effective in black and white

I liked the way my friends frog was sat half in the water with his head peeping out. I took it at an angle to make it look a bit more interesting so that the frog is actually horisontal and the water is the wrong way.

For this cat I wanted the focus on his cute little white socks

This one took a while as the dog kept trying to lick the camera haha

Ok, not really a pet but I found this cute little beetle in my garden and i thought he looked sweet sat on the end of my finger :)

ooooooooooohhhh and someone spilled a cute little blob of juice on the table

picnic bench

Was at my friends bbq today, just sat on the picnic bench snapping pictures of everyone when I actually looked at the bench properly. . . .

This tiny screw looks like a big rusty bolt snapping through a plank of wood when captured up close.

I love the detail in this one, all the intricate little cracks in the knot.

For these pictures I used a really shallow depth of field, blurring some of the wood to create different patterns:

Its so strange that by getting right up close, anything in nature can become a work of art.

A shell. . .

Water. . .

A tree. . .

A dandilion. . .

Even yucky muscles ! !

This angle makes them look more interesting, merging the back and fore ground together.

yeah flowers are pretty....

Flowers can create stunning images, with amazing colours and great detail. But they are already pretty so its not that hard to get a pretty picture.

Finding beauty in everyday things is a much more exciting challenge.

Grass for example, dull, repetetive, average.....

Not if you capture it right!

I though all the beads of water gave it much more to look at.

Here I tried capturing grass in the dark making it stand out alot more. Using the flash gives it a lovely shine, on the beads of rain.

I thought this grass i found hanging over a wall creates good depth.

As if the grass is reaching out to you from the picture! :O

I love this picture. A single shoot I found, glowing in the rising sun...

See, grass doesnt have to be boring!!!!

Looking at flowers from a different angle

A simple picture of a flower like this one I took:

is all very lovely, but its the same as you would see it if it was right there infront of you.

Using different angles creates a different image all together

this shrivelled up bud i found looked interesting and taking the photo face on hid the normal flower shape.

for this one i zoomed right in on the flower, cropping the outer petals to isolate the strange hairy bit inside.

for this blue bell i actually put the camera inside the flower to capture the part you dont normally see.

this angle creates abstract images, you might not even know it was a flower which i like the idea of...

The begining...

Hmmmmm.... where to start?! well i really like macro photography so i'll start there!

this was just a flower in my garden. so much macro photography uses flowers, they always create lovely delicate images.

I thought this daisy looked interesting with the dew showing through it.

 Imogen Cunningham creates stunning black and white photos of flowers like the ones below:

this is such a simple, but striking image, i love it!!!

she uses really good lighting which creates beautiful tones in the flowers.

I thought i'd try my own version of Cunningham's work:

this is my favourite as it has such harsh contrasts and looks a bit different hanging upside down.
